This latest release by Historian and Author Ian Baxter examines the various Führerhauptquartiere occupied by Adolf Hitler and his staff, supporters and closest confidants, from September 1939 through to the Götterdämmerung of 1945. It is an illustrated record of rare and in many cases unpublished archival images from both official and unofficial sources of all the locations and methods used by the Third Reich's leadership and their Führer to command and control the Wehrmacht's Forces, as well as some of the major incidents and daily life that took place within them. Some of these centres included; The Führersonderzug and the Reichskanzlei (1939-40), Felsennest, Wolfsschlucht and Tannenberg (1940), Wehrwolf, Wolfschanze and Wolfsschlucht 2 (1941-44), Adlerhorst and the Führerbunker (1945). In this work Ian Baxter not only describes the external and internal security measures, detailed planning and extraordinary construction methods involved in many of these high security installations, he also examines the labourers involved in creating and designing these facilities and the increasingly prevalent atmosphere of madness, rage and fear that was now being expressed behind their walls with far more frequency, as the war daily turned further and further against the Third Reich.
