The Storm

Pride and Prejudice variation. After his disastrous marriage proposal at Hunsford cottage Darcy decides to drown his sorrows caused by Elizabeth’s rejection at the village inn. Later he wanders off into the park, gets caught in the storm and a broken branch puts him to the ground. After regaining consciousness he does not remember much but he seems assured that Elizabeth has accepted his offer of marriage. Will Darcy ever remember what truly happened that faithful evening? Worried about me, I imagine.” When she did not answer but stared at him in stunned amazement, he ran his hand down her back again in a comforting gesture. “Colonel Fitzwilliam told me that you were asking about me and coming to the manor every day while I was unconscious. You should have trusted him with the news about our engagement. He would have made sure to let you see me earlier.” “Our engagement?” she croaked. “Naturally,” he said, lifting her hand to his lips and kissing her fingers. “Our engagement, my soon to be Mrs. Darcy.”
