The title short story is about Geralt of Rivia, but it is not related to The Witcher saga, nor is it an alternative ending to the saga, contrary to the publisher's note, but a completely separate work, as the author himself emphasized.

The idea for the story was provided to Sapkowski by the news of the wedding of Pawel Ziemkiewicz and Paulina Braiter. Its content is the course of the wedding of Geralt and Yennefer of Vengerberg. The story features many characters known from the early stories of the Witcher series, as well as references to parts of the saga that did not yet exist at the time of the story's publication (1994).
