Pariser Lehrjahre: Band 2 1844-1870

In the 19th century, hundreds of art students made a pilgrimage from German-speaking countries to study in Paris. Crammed with previously unknown facts, the second volume of the Encyclopedia of Paris Apprenticeships (1843–1870), which covers the time after Delaroche’s atelier closed in 1843, substantially enhances our understanding of the phenomenon of transnational artist training in an era heavily defined by nationalism.
