Systems Thinking: Selected Readings
Frederick Edmund Emery
This book represents a selection of eighteen essays on various topics of general systems theory. The essays discuss the precedents to systems theory; the properties of open systems; the environment of a system; human organizations as systems; and systems management. The general theme of Systems Thinking is that living systems, whether they be individuals or entire populations, must be analyzed as open systems which facilitate matter-energy exchanges with their external environment. Social systems are living systems and should be analyzed in this context.
